Flash Photography Basics

  • every flash photograph is two exposures in one.
  • fill flash can be used when subject is backlit or sidelit to eliminate silhouettes or shadows.
  • flash exposure is not affected by shutter speed.
  • flash illumination is dramatically affected by distance.
  • your camera measures ambient light and flash illumination separately.
  • with automatic light metering the,, the flash illumination is measured after the shutter button is pressed, and the flash output is adjusted accordingly.
  • every SLR camera with a mechanical shutter box has a maximum flash sync shutter speed.
  • harsh lighting, washed out subjects and red eye can be eliminated by using diffusers and light bouncing.
  • it is possible to change the order of when the flash fires using "rear curtain sync."
  • removing the flash from the top of the camera helps eliminate res eye and unflattering shadows.

New tutorials: Challenge Yourself

  1. Create beautiful bokeh bubbles

3. i am going to need a camera, some christmas lights, a simple background and a big space
4.
    1. first i am going to need to have a place to set everything up,
    2. i need to set up the lights far back on the wall
    3. and need to get a subject for the foreground.
    4. i am going to need to practice a little also so that i know what i need to do to make it look the best.
5.
    1. make sure camera is on aperture priority mode
    2. make sure to select the widest aperture
6. basically i would just have to do my color corrections and maybe even some presets.

science fair project

  1. its going to either be just me or me and Leslie and Bryson working on the project.
  2. is it better to take pictures handheld or with a tripod with different shutter speeds.
  3. if i take photos handheld at a slow shutter speed, then the pictures will be blurry because of our unsteady hand movements.
  4. trifold, markers, pens, pencils, glue/tape
  5. camera,computer and tripod

year in photos 2014

portrait
some rules are balance and contrast because they are well placed and they are wearing white in a dark background.
sun and other lights as light source
i think that there is natural lighting along with some artificial lighting because they are being lit very evenly even though its cloudy.
the photographer made it look really interesting with the use of light because it is cloudy.
in order for the photographer to take the picture they had to plan it out and know how to balance the light because of the background.

cityscape
rules are simple background, balance and light as the subject because it looks like the whole sky is filled.
they are not really using any type of lighting except for whats already there, i guess it would be artificial because they are fireworks, the photographer enhanced the photo by being able to capture the light well
the photographer had to know hot to capture firework in photo do they look good and isn't too dark

cityscape
simple background and balance are some rules being used.
natural light is being used because the sky is dark and there seems to be no flash or proof of it. he photographer enhanced the photo with the use if light by capturing it very well.
in order to take the picture the photographer had to have beed really lucky because its hard to take a picture of lightning i think

landscape/fictional?
simple background and light as subject is being used because you can see the moon and blank dark background.
natural light is being used because of the moon.t
he picture was enhanced with the light because it makes the picture a lot more cool because it adds more contrast to the subject being captured.
the photographer probably had to try that a lot or at least time it right because they are using a moving object as their subject.

portrait
patterns or repetition are being used with the flags at the bottom of the photo.
the photographer is using natural light because the are in a desert and it doesn't seem like there would be any other sources of light.
they enhanced the photograph with light by making it brighter at the bottom and not as bright at the top.
the photographer didn't really have to do too much to take this photo, they just had to arrange the flags and tell the man how to pose.

nature/animal
balance and simple background is being used in this photo.
the light source is mixed because its being backlit with the sun and front lit with an artificial light i believe.
the use of light enhanced the photo because it looks SO COOL and it just looks so calming and majestic.
to take the picture they had to get really close to the turtle and be able to not disturb it in its habitat and also know how to balance the lights.

architecture
balance and patterns is being used in this photo.
the lighting could all be natural because its very bright and i can see a lot of windows.
the use of light enhanced the photo because it makes the celling look so pretty and cool with all the different shapes and designs.
to take the picture they had to know how to use the light to their advantage and frame it very well.
